Inchcape rolls out ‘Cyber Academy’ to combat threat of attacks on business

Motor distributor and ex-UK dealer group Inchcape is rolling out a Cyber Academy to combat the threat of attacks on its business.

“We are now developing a tailored, multilingual Cyber Academy, which will be available in commonly spoken languages at Inchcape to increase colleague reach.

“We recognise that our supply chain relationships are a significant risk area and, in 2025, undertook a major overhaul of our supplier due diligence,” it said in its annual sustainability report.

Each year, Inchcape executes a so called “Red Team” exercise, putting its teams, process and tools through a simulated real-world attack to assess its level of resilience and identify key areas for improvement.

It said a strong cyber security approach was essential to maintain customers and OEM brand partners, referencing the JLR attack that took place last year.

“High-profile, UK-based cyber attacks in 2025 (affecting companies such as M&S, Co-Op and Jaguar Land Rover) have highlighted the significant impact a cyber attack can have on a business, as well as the far-reaching consequences affecting suppliers, customers, colleagues and the wider economy.

“The Jaguar Land Rover attack, for example, forced many smaller businesses in its supply chain to temporarily cease operations, with an estimated £1.9bn impact on the UK economy.”
