Warranty Solutions Group (WSG) has revealed that Suzuki now leads its reliability rankings with a claim rate of 6.29%, overtaking long-standing leader Toyota (7.09%).
Smaller manufacturers, including Smart (9.32%), Dacia (9.49%) and Mazda (10.36%), also performed strongly.
Dennis Brett, claims director at WSG, said: “What this data shows is a clear shift in how reliability should be understood in today’s market. It’s no longer just about how often a vehicle fails, but how expensive those failures are when they occur.
“We’re seeing a growing divide between vehicles built on proven, simpler platforms and those with higher levels of system complexity, where even minor issues can quickly escalate in cost.
“For dealers and consumers alike, that changes the conversation. Reliability is becoming as much about predictability and cost control as it is about durability, and that’s where real-world claims data becomes critical in shaping smarter decisions.”
Average claim values are rising across almost all manufacturers, driven not only by parts pricing but by longer labour times, higher hourly rates and the growing interaction between electronic systems, particularly as vehicles move beyond manufacturer warranty.
WSG’s average claim data shows a clear upward trend, with overall average claim values increasing from £632.10 to £679.24 – a rise of 7.46% over the last 12 months.
Premium manufacturers continue to generate the highest average claim values, reflecting complex drivetrains, advanced electronics and specialist repair requirements. However, rising costs are no longer confined to the luxury segment.
Volume brands including Volkswagen, Renault, Hyundai and Toyota all recorded notable year-on-year increases.
