Swansway calls for continued consumer education on EVs

Swansway Motor Group is calling for continued consumer education around electric vehicles after recent research revealed that two thirds of UK drivers have no plans to switch to an EV.

It said the findings highlight the importance of building customer confidence as the automotive industry works towards the Government’s 2035 deadline.

Since introducing electric vehicles across its retailer network, Swansway has supplied over 7,500 EVs to retail customers.

Peter Smyth, director at Swansway Motor Group, said: “Research like this demonstrates that there is still a significant education piece for the automotive industry when it comes to electric vehicles.

“Having supplied thousands of EVs to retail customers, we’ve seen many drivers remain unsure about charging, range and the realities of day to day ownership. In many cases, those concerns begin to disappear once customers can experience the technology for themselves.”

Retailers will continue to play an important role in supporting the transition by providing expert guidance, practical demonstrations and access to both new and used electric vehicles.

“The industry’s role isn’t to persuade every motorist to switch overnight. It’s about providing clear, honest information that helps customers understand all of the options available to them and make the right choice for their individual circumstances.

While the transition to 2035 remains a significant challenge, consumer confidence will ultimately play a major role in determining how quickly adoption grows.”
