Dead Cars Europe 2027

By automotive-mag.com 8 Min Read

Automakers refresh their lineups all the time, but not every model gets a replacement. Sometimes a car gets too old, the segment shrinks, or sales just aren’t strong enough anymore. And from a business perspective, manufacturers are constantly making decisions on which vehicles are worth keeping around.

We’ve already broken down which cars won’t make it to 2027 in the US—both gas-powered and electric. Now, we’re taking a look at the European market and the cars that won’t live to see next year. More vehicles are destined to join this list as the year goes on, but for now, here’s a snapshot of the model lines that have been discontinued (as of May 12, 2026).

Everyone’s favorite forbidden fruit sports car won’t live to see 2027. Alpine is pulling the plug on the A110 after the 2026 model year and replacing it with a new sports car that may or may not be electric-only. The company has hinted at reviving the combustion powertrain, but the A110 successor should be largely electrified. A convertible variant will join the new sports car, and maybe even a 2+2 configuration.

Audi A1

Audi’s entry-level model is officially on its way out. The A1 is being discontinued, which isn’t exactly a surprise given that Audi announced those plans years ago. Back in 2021, the company confirmed the A1 would end after the current generation, and even after 1.4 million models sold, there doesn’t seem to be a replacement in sight.

Audi Q2

Audi is also ending production of its smallest crossover, the Q2. The Q2 arrived in 2016 and had a successful decade, racking up nearly 900,000 units sold in that time. Sadly, it won’t get a direct replacement either. That said, Audi is working on a new A2 E-Tron, which should fill the gap left by the A1 and Q2.

Ford Focus

Ford Focus ST Edition (2024)

Ford of Europe has been cutting models left and right lately. First, the Mondeo and Fiesta, and now the Focus is gone too. In November 2025, the final Focus—a white five-door hatchback—rolled off the line. So what comes next? During Ford’s Q4 2025 analyst and investor conference, CEO Jim Farley said the company still has “exciting plans for Europe” when it comes to passenger cars. Fingers crossed.

Ford Kuga

Ford Kuga Facelift (2024)

The current third-generation Kuga debuted in 2019 and got a facelift for 2024. Essentially a European version of the Escape, it shares Ford’s C2 platform with the now-discontinued Focus. While not confirmed, the Kuga’s future remains uncertain. With the Focus already gone, it wouldn’t be surprising if the Kuga doesn’t stick around much longer either.

Honda Civic Type R

It’s getting harder for high-performance gas cars to survive in Europe, and Honda clearly sees the writing on the wall. The Civic Type R was especially difficult to justify for many buyers once prices climbed close to €60,000. Honda already gave the car a proper send-off in Europe with the 40-unit “Ultimate Edition,” but production will continue in the US and Japan for the foreseeable future.

Hyundai i10

Hyundai launched the third-generation i10 in Europe back in late 2019, but six years later, the tiny city car is already done. Hyundai confirmed production in Turkey ended at the close of 2025. There won’t be a direct replacement, although the fully electric Inster has started filling a similar role. Interestingly, the i10’s sibling, the Kia Picanto, is still available.

Mazda MX-30 R-EV

The MX-30 R-EV brought Mazda’s rotary engine back to production—just not in the way enthusiasts had hoped. Instead of powering the wheels directly, the 75-horsepower single-rotor engine worked as a range extender. The fully electric MX-30 already disappeared in 2024, and now the rotary-assisted R-EV has been discontinued in Europe. In Germany, Mazda sold just over 2,000 examples across two years.

Mercedes-Benz B-Class

2023 Mercedes B-Class facelift

It’s honestly a little sad to see the B-Class go. Ever since the original launched, the compact minivan has been especially popular with older buyers. Still, the current W247 generation is nearing the end, and Mercedes doesn’t have a direct successor planned. Production has already ended at the Rastatt plant, while manufacturing in Hungary is expected to stop sometime this year. Some of the B-Class’s practicality could live on in the next-generation A-Class expected around 2028.

Mercedes teaming up with Renault hasn’t always worked out. The X-Class pickup struggled, and now the same thing is happening with the T-Class and EQT—both based on the Renault Kangoo. In April 2025, Mercedes confirmed production of the Citan and T-Class would end during the second quarter of 2026.

Toyota GR86

Don’t worry, the Toyota GR86 isn’t going anywhere in America (at least, not right now). But the sports coupe was always a pretty rare sight in Europe, and now it’s quietly disappeared from the configurator altogether. The second-generation GR86 launched in 2021, with much of its DNA tracing back to the original GT86. Subaru already said goodbye to the BRZ in Germany, with a Final Edition model unveiled in mid-2024, so the GR86 likely isn’t far behind. That said, a new Celica could be on the horizon.

Volkswagen Touran

The Volkswagen Touran officially reached the end of the road on April 29, 2026, when the final example rolled off the production line in Wolfsburg. After more than 11 years in production, the second-generation Touran had become the oldest model still sold by Volkswagen in Germany. Worldwide production totaled around 2.3 million vehicles, and even near the end, the Touran still managed more than 14,000 new registrations in Germany during 2025. It will be missed.
