By automotive-mag.com 4 Min Read

Auto Trader has revealed the used cars on forecourts that increased in value the most over the past year and those whose values fell the most.

The highs and lows for individual models is in a market which saw demand for used electric cars rocket 40% year-on-year in September, while demand for diesel fell 19.2% against a backdrop of record fuel prices.

Electric cars were the only fuel type to record annual price growth, rising 2.8%, while petrol prices fell -1% following 17 consecutive months of growth.

Overall used car prices softened 1% year-on-year, but cars continued to sell at pace, taking an average of just 29 days.

Cars that increased in value the most include the Porsche Boxster, Renault Zoe, Mercedes-Benz SL, Mazda MX-5 and Toyota Land Cruiser (See table below).

Car values that fell the most with the Nissan Ariya the worst hit, followed by the BMW i5, Jaguar E Pace, Peugeot 408 and Vauxhall Grandland.

Marc Palmer, Head of Strategy and Insights at Autotrader, said: “September highlights just how important it is to look beneath the market averages.

“Overall prices have softened, but different cars are experiencing very different dynamics.

“Demand for electric cars is comfortably outpacing supply, supporting continued price growth, while record fuel costs are adding pressure to traditionally fuelled cars, particularly diesel.”
