Car supermarket Motorpoint has submitted a planning request to convert a site in Chester into a car supermarket.

In a planning request to Cheshire West and Chester Council, it detailed plans for the site and its ambitions for the area.

“Use of the site and retained units as a motor vehicle dealership for the sale of new and used motor vehicles, service centre, workshop, body shop, MOT centre, valet centre and pre-delivery inspection centre, with ancillary cafe, offices and ancillary accessories, parts and storage, and other associated works,” it said.

Motorpoint has been expanding. Last year it opened a new supermarket in Leeds. It now trades from 22 locations across the UK and aims to increased this number to around 30 in the medium term.

It said it had secured further development opportunities in three new market locations, with openings anticipated at the end of FY27 and during FY28.

Last month Motorpoint today issued an update on current trading and the outlook for the year ended 31 March 2027.

It said trading volumes have been stronger than anticipated, supported by its strategic initiatives, including accelerated investment in technology, data and AI, with margin improvements yielding higher profitability per unit.

“Supply dynamics remain favourable and we are pleased to announce a further store has been secured to open in Spring 2027,” it said.
