Myers & Bowman is celebrating 50 years of representing Toyota in Workington, Cumbria.
The business was founded in 1919 as a family-run business in West Cumbria, focusing on engineering and early motor vehicles. The landmark partnership with Toyota officially began in 1976 with the original Toyota showroom on Finkle Street, Workington.
Stephen Calvin, Managing Director at Myers & Bowman, said: “Reaching 50 years with the Toyota franchise is an incredibly proud moment for the entire Myers & Bowman team.
“When we opened on Finkle Street back in 1976, we knew Toyota represented reliability, but we couldn’t have foreseen just how intertwined our business would become with the lives of generations of West Cumbrian motorists.
“Our longevity is entirely down to the loyalty of our customers and the hard work of our team.”
The very first vehicle to leave the forecourt was a Toyota Corolla.
Calvin said: “The car industry has changed beyond recognition since the days of that first Corolla. Toyota has pioneered the hybrid/electric revolution, and we have evolved right alongside them to ensure our customers receive a world-class experience.
“Motorists today expect an environment that matches the smart technology inside their vehicles, and our current home reflects exactly that.”
The company’s retail concept showroom, located at Lillyhall in Workington, allows visitors to explore vehicle options whilst viewing the media wall, browsing standalone ‘silent salesmen’, and genuine accessory displays.
The space is further enhanced by ambient background music, a kids’ play area, television screens, and a premium coffee area.
Calvin said: “While our facilities are state-of-the-art and the cars are increasingly intelligent, our core values haven’t changed a bit since 1976. We still believe in honest, friendly, and deeply personal customer service.
“That blend of traditional Cumbrian values and forward-thinking automotive technology is what will drive us into the next fifty years.”
To mark the golden jubilee throughout the month of June, Myers & Bowman will be welcoming old and new customers to its Lillyhall showroom to celebrate.
