Warranty Solutions Group (WSG) crowned the Honda Civic the most reliable used family car of 2024 due its low claim rate of just 7.54%.
The findings are based on a sample of 5,000 vehicle repair claims paid by WSG between 1st January and 31st December 2024 across used family cars, excluding models with less than 300 sales across WSG’s dealer network.
Martin Binnee, operations director of WSG, said: “Family cars in the UK are generally reliable, with many manufacturers prioritising durability and practicality.
“However, the reliability of a used family car depends on the specific model, its maintenance history, and how it was previously used.”
First introduced in 1972, the Honda Civic is now in its eleventh generation. The top three most common claims for the Honda Civic were ABS wheel speed sensors averaging £175.04, O2 sensors (£351.79) and air conditioning condensers (£619.50).
The second and third most reliable car used family car were the Kia Ceed and the Mazda 6, respectively.
In fourth place was the Kia Sportage, followed by the SEAT Leon, VW Golf, BMW 1 Series, BMW 3 Series, MINI Clubman, Ford Focus, Hyundai Tucson, Nissan Qashqai, Skoda Octavia, Vauxhall Astra, Mercedes C-Class, Audi A4, Skoda Superb, Audi A3, Ford Kuga, and the Peugeot 308.
Binnee said: “Several models have established strong reputations for dependability, making them excellent choices for families seeking both practicality and peace of mind.
“While SUVs may dominate family car preferences today, there’s still a significant number of buyers who favour the charm and practicality of a traditional family car.
“For these discerning drivers, the market offers a wealth of excellent options to suit a variety of needs and tastes.”
