A total of 54,830 vehicles were reported stolen in 2025, according to What Car?.

The Ford Fiesta was the UK’s most stolen car, according to the data which was sourced from the DVLA*, with 3511 examples stolen.

What Car? consumer editor Claire Evans, said: “Annual car theft figures continue to be very high, so owners need to do all they can to keep their vehicles safe.

“Our data shows that small, inexpensive models such as the Nissan Juke and Vauxhall Corsa are under threat, so it’s vital to take measures to protect all cars.

“Simple measures like a steering lock or keeping your keys in a Faraday pouch will lessen the chances of your car being stolen.”

The yearly figure equates to 150 cars being stolen every day, six cars stolen every hour, or one stolen every 10.4 minutes.

That’s more than twice as many as the second and third most stolen models – the Volkswagen Golf and Ford Focus – combined.

The Fiesta was discontinued in 2023, but it was the UK’s top-selling new car for more than a decade, creating huge demand for used parts.

With 1.4m Fiestas on the roads, there are plenty in the country.

Toyota and sister brand Lexus have the most models in the top 10 most stolen chart: the Toyota RAV4 is the fourth most stolen model with 1348 examples taken, the Toyota C-HR is in seventh place with 967 stolen and the Lexus NX is eighth with 951 taken.

There has been a decrease in the number of thefts for seven of the models featured in the top 10 last year. The biggest drop is for the Mercedes-Benz C-Class, thefts of which are down by 26% compared with 2024; it’s now ranked 14th for thefts.

High-performance vehicles are less popular with thieves, even if this is largely down to the limited numbers on the roads.

Only six McLarens, seven Aston Martins, 17 Ferraris, 18 Lamborghinis, 22 Rolls Royces and 80 Bentleys were stolen last year.
