The 2026 Ford Mustang Mach-E silently got a new feature that’s bound to make life a little easier for Apple iPhone power users.
The refreshed electric crossover can now precondition its high-voltage battery for fast charging when using Apple Maps on CarPlay, allowing drivers to stick to Apple’s interface for the entire trip, without having to jump into the built-in navigation system to warm or cool the battery for the fastest possible charging power. The change was published on Ford’s website and reported on by 9to5Mac.

It’s a welcome addition, but it’s worth noting that there are a couple of caveats. The feature is only available on the 2026 Mustang Mach-E, and owners need to have an active Connected Navigation Subscription. Furthermore, en-route preconditioning will not work if the driver manually selects a DC fast charger from Apple Maps.
To make use of the feature, the driver needs to plan a route that includes at least one DC fast charging stop using Apple Maps’ EV routing. The car and the smartphone–which needs to be connected to CarPlay–will then exchange information and display relevant details on the car’s main screen, including stops along the route and the estimated state of charge level at each charging stop.
Tesla Superchargers are also integrated into Apple Maps, and the app will show a warning if a charging adapter is needed. The Mustang Mach-E has a CCS1 charge port, while the vast majority of Superchargers have NACS cables.
Automatic battery preconditioning was previously available when using the car’s built-in navigation system or Google Maps on Android Auto. These two navigation options will also trigger preconditioning when choosing a DC fast charger from the list of nearby chargers, whereas Apple Maps on CarPlay only does it when a route has been planned.
That said, en-route preconditioning will not work if the predicted battery level on arrival is less than 5% or the predicted range is less than 10 miles. A Connected Navigation Subscription is also needed.
The 2026 Ford Mustang Mach-E debuted late last year with a slightly lower price tag, rear door grab handles, a new California Special pack, and no front trunk as standard.
