Shoreham Vehicle Auctions (SVA) is celebrating the 15th anniversary of MD Alex Wright acquiring the business.

Wright transformed SVA from a local auction selling a few cars to local buyers to one attracting blue chip national vendors and buyers from across the south-east of England.

He said: “The auction industry and our Shoreham site have both changed dramatically since I bought the business in 2010, but our main focus of providing long term value to our buyer and seller customers remains the same.

The first five years saw us build a first-class team and a strong reputation which helped attract national as well as local vendors and our first-class customer service helped attract hundreds of buyers. The next five years saw us commit major investment to the site while our sales doubled year on year.

“And then over the past five years Covid and then the continued growth of used EVs has played a big part in shaping our industry on the back of our own investment in green energy and environmental accreditation. One constant during my 15-year tenure has been the continued support of the south coast motor industry which we have been very grateful for.”

SVA went from selling 6,500 vehicles in 2010 to last year selling over 20,000 from its three weekly auctions.

Shoreham became the first auction to be awarded Electric Vehicle Approved status by NAMA in 2023 to celebrate its commitment to environmental initiatives.

In 2023, Wright invested in installing 140 solar panels that produce 50kW of clean energy to power the auction and its 15 EV chargers, including its own electric company car and trade plate delivery driver fleet.

It achieved ISO 14001 in the same year and back in 2019 SVA was the first auction to work with the Energy Saving Trust to roll out EV training to its staff.
