Ray Chapman Motors has officially opened its Chery showroom in York, marking a significant milestone in the company’s 57-year history.
The opening was attended by the Right Honourable, The Lord Mayor of York, Martin Rowley BEM.
Located at 223 Malton Road, Huntington, York, YO32 9QN, the state-of-the-art facility is now open to the public, offering customers the opportunity to explore and test drive Chery’s acclaimed TIGGO 7, award-winning TIGGO 8, and TIGGO 9 models.
Rowley said: “I’m thrilled to support a York-based family business in this new venture. Ray Chapman Motors are a well-respected and trusted name here in York.
“Their new Chery dealership on Malton Road will bring a quality offer to families and individuals, at an affordable price. Well done and good luck.”
For over five decades, Ray Chapman Motors has been synonymous with Volvo, delivering exceptional service and customer care across its centres in Bradford, Huddersfield, Malton, and York.
Now, recognising the transformative shift in the UK automotive industry — including the rapid rise of electrification and the arrival of high-quality, value-driven brands from Asia — the business is embracing change while staying true to its core values.
Managing director Duncan Chapman said: “Our commitment to Volvo remains as strong as ever.
“This is not a change in direction — it’s an evolution. We’re proud of our heritage with Volvo, and we continue to invest in our Volvo sites across the region.
“But the car market is changing faster than ever, and our customers are looking for more choice, innovation, and value. Chery represents a bold new chapter for us — one that allows us to meet growing customer demand for premium, affordable, and technologically advanced vehicles.”
The new Chery facility has undergone a full redevelopment, transforming the former D & J Woodcock Garage Services site into a modern, brand-dedicated showroom.
