- The 2025 Ram HD gets styling updates that give it split headlights
- The Ram HD can tow up to 36,610 pounds
- The 2025 Ram Heavy Duty costs $47,560 when it goes on in the first quarter of this year
After revealing updated styling a few months back, Stellantis on Tuesday provided more details on its updated 2025 Ram Heavy Duty pickup truck.
The new styling—which includes bifurcated headlights and revised grilles, with a different design for each trim level—is just a wrapper for the most substantial updates since the current Ram Heavy Duty arrived for the 2019 model year.
Inside, the Heavy Duty pickup receives the same tech updates as the light-duty 2025 Ram 1500. An available 14.5-inch portrait-oriented touchscreen provides split-screen capability (lower trim levels get 8.4-inch or 12.0-inch displays). A 10.3-inch touchscreen for the front passenger and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster can be specified as well.
Heavy Duty models also receive some features already common on light-duty pickups and passenger cars, including dual wireless device chargers, a digital rearview mirror, and driver aids like adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, traffic sign recognition and a driver attention monitor. The bigger trucks also adopt the Ram 1500’s automated trailer-reversing system.
Also new is an onboard inverter that can send up to 2.4 kw of electricity through dual outlets in the bed. Activated either via the touchscreen or a switch located to the left of the outlets, it automatically adjusts engine rpm to provide the necessary power while the vehicle is in park.
Ram will continue to offer 2500 and 3500 Heavy Duty models with gasoline and diesel engine options. The Cummins 6.7-liter turbodiesel inline-6 has been redesigned with changes to the block, head (incorporating larger intake and exhaust valves), intake manifold, and turbocharger, along with a higher-pressure fuel system.
However, at 430 hp and 1,075 lb-ft of torque, the new diesel only sees a 10 hp bump from the previous high-output diesel, with torque unchanged from what was admittedly a very high peak. The gasoline 6.4-liter V-8 sees a 5-hp drop to 405 hp, but makes the same 429 lb-ft of torque as before.
Both engines are coupled to an updated 8-speed automatic transmission that’s now column-shifted and enables a 3.42:1 rear-axle ratio. Ram claims this will improve fuel efficiency, but since EPA testing isn’t require for heavy-duty trucks, we won’t know how much of an improvement that will be. Ram did confirm a 0-60 mph time of 6.9 seconds for diesel models, down from 8.0 seconds for the 2024 model.
Maximum towing capacity is down slightly, though from 37,090 pounds to 36,610 pounds. That’s achieved with the diesel engine, while maximum payload capacity of 7,590 pounds requires the gasoline engine. It’s also down a smidge from the 2024 model, which was rated at 7,680 pounds of payload capacity.
The 2025 Ram Heavy Duty lineup includes Tradesman, Big Horn, Lone Star, Laramie, Rebel, Power Wagon, Limited Longhorn and Limited models. Pricing starts at $47,560 for the Ram 2500 Heavy Duty and $48,565 for the Ram 3500 Heavy Duty (both prices include destination).
Built in Saltillo, Mexico, the 2025 Ram Heavy Duty is expected to reach dealerships in the first quarter of this year.
