Just a couple of months after restarting production of its Grenadier following the insolvency of a key supplier, the U.K.’s Ineos has now been forced to recall the rugged SUVs because the doors might fly open.
The recall affects specific 2024 Grenadiers, with 7,022 examples impacted in the U.S.
According to the recall notice published by the NHTSA on March 6 (recall campaign number 25V147000), the affected Grenadiers may have left the factory in Hambach, France, with an insufficient application of grease for the door button assemblies.
This could lead to a door button remaining depressed, which would result in the door not fully latching, thus increasing the risk that the door could open while the vehicle is in motion. Ineos said owners will be able to notice if the door doesn’t latch properly, as a visual warning will appear in the instrument cluster, with audible alerts to follow if the vehicle starts to move with a door not fully latched.
The remedy requires Ineos to replace the door button assemblies, a service that will be performed free of charge.
Ineos said it became aware of the issue in October 2023 after receiving several warranty claims but stated that it isn’t aware of any crashes or injuries related to the defect. The company said owners can still drive their vehicles, provided they ensure the doors are correctly latched.
Affected owners will be notified by mail starting March 31. Anyone seeking further information can contact Ineos at 1-833-494-4748.
