FJ Chalke chairman James Chalke retires after 40-plus years in business

F J Chalke has announced the retirement of James Chalke (pictured above) after almost five decades with the company.

George Chalke (pictured below), James’s son and fourth generation of the Chalke family in the business, will step into the role of chairman.

FJ Chalke represents Abarth, Fiat, Jeep, Kia, MG, Nissan and Suzuki, Maxus vans and trucks and Isuzu trucks. The dealer group has outlets in Mere, Wincanton, Yeovil and Gillingham.

It is ranked 164 in the last published Motor Trader Top 200 Dealer Groups with annual turnover of £59.5m.

James Chalke will be looking forward to trying to lower his golf handicap and having more time for travel with his wife.

In a farewell message, he expressed his gratitude for the rewarding journey experienced over the years, reflecting on the challenges and successes that have shaped the company. “I am pleased to say that I leave the business in good hands,” he said.

Steve Fowler will continue as managing director of the company, heading up a board that includes directors Scott Young, Martin Berkley, and Mark Swain.

FJ Chalke has been a family-owned business since its formation in 1929. The group’s Yeovil dealership recently celebrated its 25th anniversary with Nissan.
