National Franchised Dealers Association (NFDA) has submitted its response to the Government’s Zero Emission Vehicle (ZEV) Mandate consultation, to the Department of Transport.
In its response, the NFDA calls for targets that better reflect consumer demand and current market conditions.
Sue Robinson, Chief Executive of NFDA, said: “Franchised dealers are committed to supporting the transition to zero-emission vehicles, but the targets need to reflect what customers are actually ready and able to buy.
“A more realistic trajectory would give demand, charging infrastructure and vehicle choice time to develop, while maintaining progress towards the Government’s longer-term ambitions.”
The NFDA is proposing a 60% zero-emission car target and 40% zero-emission van target by 2030.
The response also calls for greater flexibility, including additional credits for zero-emission vans and more proportionate compliance payments.
For vans, the NFDA response points out that range, payload, towing capability and access to charging are important considerations for businesses.
The ZEV Mandate consultation closes on 23 October 2026.
