Athenea Automotive Group has reported combined pro-forma revenue of £1.5 billion for the year ended 31 December 2025, its first full trading period following the acquisition of Johnsons Cars.

The Group reported an aggregate turnover of £904.2 million for the period comprising a full year of trading from Brayleys and four months of Johnsons post-acquisition.

Andrew Burn, Deputy CEO, Athenea Automotive Group, said: “Recognising the challenges that were seen in the UK automotive retail sector during 2025, the performance of the Group was in line with expectations.

“Despite these market challenges, the Group increased its gross margin and continued to grow the number of cars and motorbikes sold in the period compared to the previous year.

“2025 was a significant year for the Group with the acquisition of Johnsons which increased the revenue run rate to £1.5 billion per annum.  This has now formed the bedrock for the Group’s future expansion plans.”

The EBITDA generated from trading activities was £3.7 million before accounting for one-off adjustments in relation to the acquisition of Johnsons and holding company costs unrelated to the automotive operations of the Group.

Brayleys and Johnsons sold more than 40,000 vehicles during the trading period, with combined sales exceeding 71,800 vehicles when sales made before and after the acquisition of Johnsons are included.

The group increased its gross margin by 0.4 percentage points to 9.9% in FY25, up from 9.5%. Cash generated from operating activities was £19.2m during the year.

At the end of the financial year, the group held £258m of stock against £87.6m of stock financing.

Core net debt, excluding stock financing, stood at £2.5m, while cash at bank and in hand was £25.3m.

On 1 July 2026, shareholder loans totalling £62.2m were converted into equity. This included £54.2m relating to funding for the Johnsons acquisition, which had initially been injected into the group as a loan.

The group said its shareholders and management team will continue to pursue organic growth and acquisitions, with an ambition to reach £5bn in revenue.
