ICDP’s new Top 50 European dealer groups list is based on the performance of groups in 2024 or their latest financial year starting in 2024.
The Top 3 remains unchanged – Emil Frey ranked first, Penske Automotive ranked second and Hedin ranked third with respective turnovers of £15.8 billion, £8.8 billion and £7 billion.
A steady stream of acquisitions is fuelling the expansion of the Top 50. During 2024, ICDP identified 49 deals in which 1,039 franchise points changed hands
Most deals remain domestically focused with just 8% of the 2024 transactions involving a foreign buyer.
The UK-owned portion of the top 50 has fallen back by 4% points, putting the UK into third place at 14% of the total.
This is the result of acquisitions by the North American players and others dropping out like Inchcape as the result of disposals.
Half of the Top 10 are predominantly UK operations including Penske through Sytner and Lithia Manufacturer-Owned Dealer Groups.
