The long and protracted legal battle concerning Mackie Motors and its termination in 2021 took another twist this month with the announcement that it is taking legal action against its former legal advisor Freeths.

Between January 2022 and May 2023, Freeths advised Mackie Motors on its High Court claim against RCI Financial Services, a subsidiary of Renault SA. The case involved the termination of Mackie.

The new claim in the Commercial Court (reference CL-2025-000505), was lodged on 4 November. Freeths has 28 days to present its defence from that date.

The filing alleges Freeths acted negligently and in breach of its duties when representing Mackie

Motor Trader contacted Freeths who said they were “unable to comment on ongoing court proceedings.”

Legal firm MILS, which is representing Mackie said on its website that Freeths had made it clear in correspondence that it strongly denied any liability and all the allegations being made against them and that it will be defending the matter.

The new claim is separate from ongoing legal proceedings (Claim No. LM-2025-000270) being taken by Mackie Motors and Kevin Mackie against Renault UK, Nissan Motor (GB) and RCI Financial Services over its termination in 2021.
