Dealer Auction saw a 72.8% rise in bids on AFVs in January, to 5,569, with the Toyota Prius hybrid being the standout model.

Bids for AFVs in January surpassed those on ICE models, which increased by 65%, and surpassed the average month in 2024 (4,271).

Dealer Auction’s marketplace director, Kieran TeeBoon, said: “2025 is certainly upping the game, with higher sold prices, higher margin, bids and engagement metrics compared with the averages for 2024.

“This underscores the growing confidence in alternatively fuelled vehicles among customers and traders – and we hope this interest is sustained through the year. The key will be seeing younger and lower-mileage vehicles coming through.”

The average sold price rose to £16,781, the average retail margin rose to £3,052, and ad views rose 13,182 to 21,500, signaling a strong start to the year for AFVs.

The age of the AFVs increased from 3.1 to 4.3 years old while the average mileage increased from around 34,000 to 36,129 miles.

In terms of overall sales on Dealer Auction, hybrids account for 6.6% while pure electric vehicles account for 1%.

Hybrids dominated the AFV market, occupying all the spots in the top 10 by volume sold and top 10 by average gross margin, and 80% of the CAP performance chart.

The Nissan Qashqai had the second-best average retail margin (£3,467), followed by the Lexus NX (£3,426), the Lexus RX (£3,277), the Hyundai Tucson (£3,121), the Kia Niro (£3,062), the Mercedes-Benz A-Class (£2,911), the Toyota RAV4 (£2,774), the Toyota C-HR (£2,710), and the Mercedes-Benz C-Class (£2,673).
