- Genesis has been spotted testing a full-size electric SUV, expected to be called the GV90
- The Genesis Neolun concept unveiled in 2024 previewed the design
- A market launch in 2026 is currently anticipated
Genesis’ biggest SUV at present is the midsize GV80, but the automaker has been spotted testing a full-size offering tipped to be badged as the GV90 and powered exclusively by batteries.
The GV90 prototype is heavily camouflaged, but details like the daytime running lights, side indicators, and light strips for the taillights can clearly be seen. They all match up with the design featured on Genesis’ Neolun concept from 2024, a full-size electric SUV whose shape is also similar to the SUV seen testing here.

The driver of the GV90 prototype, in an attempt to evade photographers, ended up crashing the vehicle into a ditch, allowing our photographer to get some snaps of the interior. The prototype was fitted with four individual seats split over two rows, a configuration popular with chauffeur-driven vehicles in parts of Asia, namely China.
The SUV in our spy shots features conventional doors, while the Neolun concept came with coach-style doors at the rear and also skipped a B-pillar.
The Neolun name is a portmanteau of the Greek neo and Latin luna, which translates to “new moon.” It’s meant to signify Genesis’ aim of delivering technological innovation in its future vehicles, the automaker said at the concept’s reveal.
One of the innovations the GV90 is expected to usher in is Hyundai Motor Group’s next-generation EV platform, known as the IMA (Integrated Modular Architecture). The new platform is an evolution of the current E-GMP design used by Hyundai Motor Group, but whereas the E-GMP has different battery systems for each vehicle it supports, the IMA will have a standardized battery. Other key components, like the motors (of which there will be five types), will also be standardized.

Genesis hasn’t mentioned plans for a GV90, but a market launch in 2026 is expected, meaning we’ll likely see the vehicle arrive as a 2027 model in the U.S. Production may also take place here, specifically at Hyundai Motor Group’s so-called Metaplant in Bryan County, Georgia.
For the U.S. market, third-row seats and a range of at least 300 miles are shaping up to be the minimum for this class of vehicle. Other electric full-size SUVs in the luxury segment include the Cadillac Escalade IQ and Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV.
