McLaren 765LT recalled due to rear window detaching

By automotive-mag.com 2 Min Read

McLaren has issued a recall on its hardcore 765LT supercar due to the rear window potentially detaching.

The recall covers examples of the 765LT coupe from the 2021 model year, and affects a total of 163 cars in the U.S.

According to the recall notice published by the NHTSA on Nov. 28 (recall campaign number 24V901000), insufficient adhesive bonding may cause the rear window to detach from its frame, particularly in cases where the vehicle is being driven on a racetrack.

A large object like the rear window detaching and ending up on the road would create a major hazard for other drivers.

McLaren said it became aware of the issue after receiving a number of warranty claims related to the rear window becoming loose in some areas and, in some rarer cases, becoming totally detached. The automaker said it is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to the issue.

The remedy requires McLaren dealers to install custom fasteners into each corner of the polycarbonate rear window, a service the automaker will perform free of charge.

McLaren started mailing owner notification letters from Dec. 6, but anyone interested in finding out more can contact McLaren at 1-888-327-4236 or visit the automaker’s recall page.
