- The Jaguar Type 00 concept was revealed during 2024 Miami Art Week
- The striking concept previews the first in a trio of ultra-luxury Jaguar EVs
- The production model will launch in late 2025, with deliveries starting the following year
Jaguar is on a mission to transform into a much more exclusive brand, offering a trio of ultra-luxury electric vehicles targeted at a very different customer base from the existing one.
The first of the EVs is due in late 2025, and Jaguar previewed it with the Type 00 concept unveiled late on Monday during 2024 Miami Art Week. Why not at a traditional auto show? According to Rawdon Glover, Jaguar’s managing director, art is a “passion point” for the types of customers the brand wants to attract, and Miami Art Week is one of the world’s premier art festivals.
With the new concept and the future production model it heralds, Jaguar said it wanted to live up to the “copy nothing” quip of company founder William Lyons. The concept certainly does that, though there are still elements from Jaguar’s past, like the concept’s proportions and side cutlines taking inspiration from the E-Type coupe.
The Type 00, whose name signifies zero emissions and the concept being a precursor for Jaguar’s future lineup, is a large fastback coupe with a long hood and a pair of doors that open vertically. The greenhouse features a jet fighter-style canopy design, popularized by the Nissan GT-R, while the rear includes an element resembling a multi-slatted grille with open vents. This contrasts with a similar grille-like element at the front, which is completely sealed.
Next-generation Jaguar EV prototype
As wild as the concept looks, many of its lines are expected to be retained for production. Jaguar design boss Gerry McGovern said at the Type 00’s reveal that he doesn’t do concepts, unless they’re destined for production.
Jaguar has already shown a prototype for the first of the new EVs, confirmed by the automaker to be a sleek four-door grand tourer. Though the prototype is heavily camouflaged in the photos released by Jaguar, the overall shape is similar to the Type 00 concept.

Jaguar’s new simplified logos also feature at the front and rear of the concept, as well as on the front fenders. The fender logo sits on a brass cover for a rear-facing camera system that deploys when in use. The absence of a rear window also means the rearview mirror relies on a camera system.
The interior design follows the same minimalist theme as the exterior. Taking full advantage of an EV’s architecture, the center console, rather than sitting on the floor, appears to float between the seats. The driver is greeted by an oval-shaped steering wheel, as well as floating digital screens that span the dash and tuck away when not in use.

The new generation of Jaguars will be priced significantly higher than models from recent years, with the automaker previously hinting the grand tourer will have a starting price of around 100,000 British pounds (approximately $163,000). Other models are thought to include a large SUV and a sedan.
The cars will be built in the U.K. on a dedicated EV platform called JEA (Jaguar Electrified Architecture). Jaguar has stated that having a distinct platform is critical for differentiating its EVs from those of other brands under parent company JLR.

No details on the platform have been revealed apart from it being able to deliver as much as 1,000 hp and an EPA range estimate of up to 430 miles, even with 23-inch wheels as shown on the concept. The platform will also be able to add up to 200 miles of range in just 15 minutes of charging, when using a suitable DC fast charger.
The transformation plan, first announced in 2021, is a bold move for Jaguar, which has already begun phasing out its current lineup in some markets, including its home market in the U.K. In these areas, dealerships—often shared with Land Rover—are focusing on clearing out existing stock ahead of the new electric arrivals. In some markets, the EVs will be marketed through new brand stores. The first of these stores will open in Paris.
