Volkswagen has received the most enquiries on Carwow (9.1% share of total enquiries) and is also the most-configured brand (8.9% share of all vehicle configurations).

The most-configured Volkswagen on the Carwow platform is the Tiguan (1.5% share of configurations among all marques), followed by the Golf and Polo, each with a 0.9 % share.

Sepi Arani, Managing Director of Media & Commercial at Carwow, said: “Competition for market share amongst brands is continuing to ramp up as we approach the halfway point of the year.

“Volkswagen holds a strong position, but with new entrants increasingly securing favour with UK car buyers and new retail partners, we’re seeing a gradual shift in brand popularity.

“Despite Volkswagen retaining the top spot in the list of most-configured manufacturers, it has dropped in the rankings of most popular models on Carwow as a whole.”

BEV configurations are up 39% and enquiries are up 79% YoY. Volkswagen’s ID range ranked fifth in terms of BEV configurations and BEV enquiries in April.

Volkswagen models are popular for retailers sourcing stock direct from the consumer, with three appearing in Carwow’s top 10 list of ‘most profitable’ used cars sold in its daily online auctions in Q1. T

The 2020 Golf GTI ranked second with a profit potential of £3,386, followed by the 2021 Golf R in fourth (£3,196) and the 2020 Tiguan (£2,702) rounding up the top 10.

Carwow data reveals two-thirds of UK locations showing a shortfall in supply from Volkswagen retailers. The top five regions with the biggest gap between Volkswagen supply and demand are Leeds, Nottingham, Derby, Leicester and Newcastle upon Tyne.

These regions share 8% of all Volkswagen configurations and enquiries generated via Carwow and command 10% of all Volkswagen sales. There is high purchase intent and less retailer competition in these regions.
