Trading Standards is calling for a licensing scheme for motor vehicles when the next government comes to power.

The call came in its just published manifesto. It said with a General Election in the Westminster Parliament on the horizon, the Chartered Trading Standards Institute (CTSI) had developed a manifesto that set out what the Trading Standards profession wants the next Government to focus on.

It wants to build back Trading Standards Services, to better protect consumers, and to ensure that it has the right levels of regulation in the UK to support business innovation and growth.

Its manifesto calls on the government to “introduce licensing schemes for the home improvement, motor vehicles and green energy businesses.”

In its manifesto it said “consumers are confused about how to seek redress when they have a problem (due to a combination of multiple ADR providers and gaps in redress) and do not understand the role of Ombudsmen, Redress and ADR schemes.”
