Tesla has taken first and second place in The Electric Car Scheme’s list of most popular new and used EVs in the UK through salary sacrifice.
Next year is expected to be a breakout year for EVs in the UK, with the combination of government incentives such as salary sacrifice and new grants, and the next step of the ZEV Mandate.
Thom Groot, CEO of The Electric Car Scheme, said: “Tesla continues to dominate the EV market in the UK, and I fully expect to see them in the top 5 in 2026 too. The growth of the Chinese models, however, has been exceptionally fast, and one or more of them could easily nab that top spot next year.
“It is not surprising, when our data shows that upfront cost and affordability is the number one concern for 54% of Brits, that cheaper Chinese models are coming to the fore.”
Top 10 selling EVs in 2025 were the Tesla Model 3, followed by the Tesla Model Y, MG MG4, Ford Explorer, Polestar 2, Mercedes EQA, BMW i4, BYD Seal, Omoda 5, and Kia EV3.
Chinese models are also set to continue their rapid growth next year.
Groot added: “The new models coming onto the market, as well as the government’s incentives will likely mean that next year sees a big jump in EV uptake, as more people realise they are more affordable than ever before.
“This is why we set up The Electric Car Scheme, to help make it simpler and more affordable to get behind the wheel of an electric car.”
