Ron Skinner and Son has submitted a planning application to convert an industrial unit at Tafarnaubach Industrial Estate into a car dealership.

The group’s business was destroyed by fire with the loss of vehicles last August.

The planning agent, Arfon Hughes of Mango Planning and Development, said: “The existing building was destroyed and the remaining structure unsafe,” highlighting the severity of the situation.

Following discussions with the local council, the building was subsequently demolished, and the site was cleared with an eye toward future redevelopment.

In the interim, to ensure continuity of business operations, the adjoining vacant unit was repurposed.

This involved transforming it into a showroom, sales area, vehicle storage yard, and administration offices, along with transferring staff from the original site to the new location.

Hughes indicated that the primary use of the space would be for car sales, complemented by associated office and storage facilities.

He argued, “As such and given that it simply replicates a use previously provided on the same estate, the proposal ought to be entirely acceptable in principle.”

A decision regarding this planning application is anticipated by May 25.
