Motability has issued a warning to dealers about third parties claiming to hold information and data relating to the Motability scheme.

The warning came in response to Motor Trader contacting Motability having been alerted by a dealer to a potential fraud in supplying Motability leads.

A spokesperson from Motability Operations, which runs the Motability Scheme, said: “Protecting our customers and partners from fraud is a top priority, and we remain alert to any organisations attempting to exploit or mislead.

“We have robust plans in place to protect the Motability Scheme and encourage our partners to contact us if they have any concerns.

“In accordance with data protection law, we will only share personal information with our partners when it is needed for them to provide services to our customers. We do not share personal information with any third parties for marketing purposes.

“We reinforce this point when any of our partners are uncertain about third parties claiming to hold information and data relating to the Motability Scheme. This information is also available on our Dealer Resource Centre.”
