Middle-aged EVs are UK’s fastest-selling used cars, says Autotrader

Used cars are currently selling in just 29 days on average, one day quicker than the previous three-month average of 30 days, according to Autotrader.

The growing interest in electric vehicles is playing an especially important role.

Marc Palmer, Autotrader’s Head of Strategy & Insights, said: “The data is clear: electric cars are thriving in the used car market this month.

“Our top ten list this month, which is dominated by ‘middle-aged’ EVs, proves that when the price is right, there is an appetite from buyers to make the switch to electric. And the market as a whole is steadily accelerating too.

“For retailers, the opportunity is huge, but success depends on leveraging the latest market intelligence to price precisely, hit demand, and turn stock quickly while protecting margins.”

EVs have been in high demand, making up seven of the ten fastest-selling used cars on the market.

Used electric cars are leaving forecourts in just 27 days on average, making electric the fastest-selling fuel type this month.

EVs aged 3-5-years-old are selling even faster at a rate of just 22 days, faster than any other segment of the used car market. All seven electric models in the top ten fall within the 3 to 5-year-old age bracket.

Selling 10 days faster than the used EV average, the Tesla Model Y (3 to 5 Years), the MG ZS (3 to 5 Years) and the Hyundai KONA (3 to 5 Years) are all selling in just 17 days so far this September.

However, the Vauxhall Corsa (petrol, up to 1 year) claims the top spot, averaging 11 days to sell.

Diesel models account for half of the slowest-selling used cars this September, selling two days slower than the market average (31 days average).
